WALKING FIT
Running time 27 min
Walking has been called the perfect exercise. It's one that we've been designed to do. More than half our
body's muscles are used in walking and it has excellent cardiovascular benefits. It can fit into the
exercise programs of young and old alike. No wonder it's one of our most popular activities!
SOMA's program called "Walking Fit" provides all the information you need to know to create your own walking
program. Topics covered include: walking technique (including some information on race-walking), designing
a training program, choosing proper footwear and clothes, and tips and advice on sustaining a program.
The program's host is Ann Peel who is ranked among the top ten competitive race-walkers in the world. She
is the record-holder for the 3,000 and 10,000 meter distances. She also puts on walking clinics throughout
North America for people who are interested in walking for fitness and fun.
The programs's main emphasis is on recreational walking for fitness, but some of the basics of race-walking
and hiking are introduced, and warmup and cool down exercises are demonstrated.Physical fitness experts
show how to design a personal program and will explain the benefits of walking.
